Scurtarola, Vernero IGT 2008 - Tuscany

Ref: EE187

13.5° Grape:100% Vermentino Nero

Lorieri is, by any account, an artistic botanist. With his own selection of 52 different grape varieties, many of them unknown and quite a few unchartered, whose DNA is not yet known, he is an authority on historical local vines.

This is his signature wine, from an indigenous little known red grape from Northern Tuscany. While resembling the white Vermentino grape, it is an entirely different grape variety, which gives rise to its name (a misnomer).

Following a maceration of 16 days, it is fermented in small oak kegs and fined 17 months before bottling. It is matured a further 15 months in bottle. An intense bouquet of black berries is followed by an undertone of broom, toasted coffee and a whiff of vanilla. Soft and persistent with great structure and tamed, ageing tannins. Only 2380 bottles produced .
