Podere Veneri Vecchio, Rutilum IGT 2013 - Campania

Ref: EE192

14.5° Grape:50% Sangiovese, 50% Barbera del Sannio

Members of VinNatur, these wines are characterised by the approach to wine-making typical of natural wines: using only yeasts occurring spontaneously from the grapes and the microflora in the cellar, no additives, negligible S0, no filtration or clarification, cultivation of grasses between rows of vines and green manure. In fact the winemaker is so convinced of the benefits of letting the earth heal and find its own strengths that he is now researching the use of barrels made from local woods.

Rutilum entails 25 days of maceration on the skins, transferring to stainless steel vats with its fine lees and weekly batonnage. The Barbera grape in this wine bears no resemblance to its northern counterpart, being entirely indigenous to the region. Like all their wines, this is a blend from a single vineyard, as mixed-grape vineyards used to be the norm. Characterised by dense overripe fruit with contrasting acidity, this is an intense, fleshy wine with lots of red fruit and blackberry jam, laced with dark cherry, strawberries and vanilla. Fully rounded and sapid, it's a perfect terroir wine.
