Verrone, Verrone Cilento Aglianico DOC Riserva 2004

14.5° Grape: 100% Cilento Aglianico

From the oldest vines (1971) comes an ageing wine of great distinction and nobility which is the apex of this small, family-run estate. Picked when fully mature, a 20-day maceration follows. It is then aged two years in used barriques and a further 3 years in bottle. Only 2000 bottles produced. Fully expressive of the high Cilento foothills, it brings its dense black fruit and chocolate laced with cloves to full maturation, with no stylistic pretensions, the true expression of a structured, terroir wine. A fine example to represent the 'Barolo of the south' (only denser!)
